My thoughts of playing and guitar’s quality

Picture
After a few months of guitar playing, I still find my chord changing a little slow but with slight improvement from day one. What I have on hand is a cheap used Yamaha acoustic guitar from my friend, as this is the one I’m only afforded to buy with a discount thanks to friendship. However I do read a lot from magazines and forums on how not to get a second hand guitar because they are old, out of tune, difficult to play, sounds terrible, etc. Yes, I have to agree with some of these because when I first brought home my guitar, it behaves like a tough cookie to me. I found the action is very high and difficult to play. My brother suggested that to bring it to the store and get it fixed. So I went and I must admit it does get slightly better on playability, but still doesn’t sound very good whenever I strum it. I am kind of like having a mix feeling towards the quality of my Yamaha acoustic guitar.

My chord changing skill is still sucks as it has always been. I found that my fingers landed on the right guitar strings most of the time, however, I seems too slow to get all the guitar strings to ring although I try to put my fingers as near as to the guitar frets. Sometime I would how perfect do you have to be when doing this action? Am I sucks in playing guitar? Or it is just simply because of my Yammy – it is cheap and cannot perform well? I hate to find my fingers out of place trying hard to handle the guitar strings, but in the end, what it delivers is just some buzzes. These made me think twice – is my Yamaha acoustic guitar holding me back or it is due to my playing?

And one more thing, strumming on my guitar is also another challenge to me. I always find it is difficult to keep a fixed distance from the guitar strings and my guitar pick. I am kind of a mess when strumming a simple song. My guitar pick and strings seems to hate each other!

I wonder what the good way to fix these problems is. The only thought on this that I have in mind at the moment is may be due to the guitar itself. I guess it might not be as terrible as I think but my friends suggested a heavier gauge of guitar strings might be able to help.

Well, guess I would have to take their advice then.
